The Story Behind Ode to a Mother

Ode to a Mother was born from the lived experience of its founder, Nali, following her own journey through postpartum depression after the birth of her first and only child.

Prior to motherhood, Nali described herself as ambitious, career-focused, driven, and highly self-aware. What she had not anticipated was how profoundly the postpartum season could shift her sense of identity. Despite having a supportive husband of ten years, a stable home life, and a career she valued, she found herself spending nearly two years navigating mental fog, deep fatigue, and difficulty bonding with her baby.

Although Nali had support in some areas of her life, she had very little hands-on support during the postpartum period. With no close family nearby and limited understanding from those around her, she often felt alone in what she was experiencing. This made it difficult to reach out and ask for help. When she sought professional assistance, she was faced with a two-month wait for a psychologist appointment and significant out-of-pocket expenses — costs that were not manageable for her family at the time while living on a single income.

After struggling through the challenges of stay-at-home motherhood, Nali recognised that her mental health was gradually overshadowing the happy, lively person she once was. Determined not to let it define her future, she made a conscious decision to change her circumstances.

Three years later, she transformed her pain into purpose and became a Certified Postpartum Transitioning Coach.

Today, through Ode to a Mother, Nali is committed to supporting families during the important transition into life with a new baby. Every family’s journey is unique, and the project exists to provide personalised, practical, and emotional support tailored to individual needs.

Emotional support is equally important. Parents are offered a safe, compassionate space to debrief their labour and birth experience or talk openly about how they are feeling. Whether navigating anxiety, overwhelm, exhaustion, identity shifts, or uncertainty, no parent has to face it alone.

Where helpful, support may also extend to establishing gentle routines, creating structure within the home, or exploring bonding activities with baby. The approach is grounded in empathy, understanding, and non-judgment. No topic is off limits, and space is held for vulnerability, honesty, and emotional expression.
